The Iowa Democratic Party, and in particular the Second District of Iowa are committed to inclusion and encouragement of the widest diversity of our Citizens. To this end, the IDP has established seven caucus groups who represent "Traditionally Under-represented" groups of Citizens. Representatives of these groups usually meet to elect officers at 8:15 AM at the Iowa Democratic Party State Convention. Some groups have been more active than others in organizing at the District, County or Local Levels. This web page and it's links will attempt to encourage the growth of participation from these and other minority constituencies.
Under the Constitution of the Iowa Democratic Party, the State Central Committee includes voting members from the following: the Chair of the State Affirmative Action Committee, the President of the Iowa Young Democrats, and Presidents of the seven Caucuses listed: Black;, Latino; Pacific Islander/Asian; Disability; Stonewall; American Indian; and Armed Forces Veterans.
The current Active Officers of concern to the minority caucuses in the Second District are as follows:
The above representatives, and all similar officers are encouraged to expand the use of this site to assist in promoting the involvement of persons from these groups. This Website is being upgraded, in part to assure more persons with disabilities will have access to this information, and all activities of the Iowa Democratic Party.
Iowa Supreme Court issued a unanimous ruling at 8:30 AM Friday, April 3, 2009 on Lambda Legal's marriage equality case, Varnum v. Brien. The Ruling upheld the lower court in favor of allowing Same-Sex Couples in Iowa to Marry! Linn County Stonewall Democrats, CR-GLRC, One-Iowa, and other GLBT friendly entities held victory rallies and forums around the State.
This ruling and the Supreme Court Justices who supported this ruling are now under attack. Radical opponents of Equal Rights want to put Discrimination into the Constitution of the State of Iowa. Please vote to Retain the Iowa Supreme Court Judges, and vote "NO" on a Constitutional Convention.
